LANE ART FEST WAS A SUCCESS

On June 4th, Lane Tech Art Department hosted it’s annual Art Fest. This year’s festivities were held in our newly renovated cafeteria, and featured fun art activities including zine making, screen printing, photo booth, henna, arm knitting, clay tile making, temporary tattoos, karaoke, and more. Check out our pics to see the fun that was had.

NATIONAL SCHOLASTIC GOLD MEDALIST, LUCY MCDONALD

We are pleased to announce that Lucy McDonald has earned national recognition in The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2015.  Lucy has been identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, 300,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level. These students have been invited to attend a ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on Thursday, June 11.

CPS All-CITY ART EXHIBITION

On March 20, the first 2015 CPS All-City Art Exhibition opened at Gallery 72 in downtown Chicago. Seven art students from Lane Tech had work selected and showcased in this event. The exhibit runs from March 20th-April 12th. Congratulations to the following students on a job well done.

ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION

Five students from Lane Tech had artwork selected and shown at the Illinois High School Art Exhibition, which opened on March 1, 2015 at the Zhou B Arts Center. Congrats to Claire Cadrot (Painting), Patrick Ortiz (Printmaking), Loc Nguyen (Graphic Design), Samantha Mertel (Drawing), and Bryssa Farfan (Photography). Not only were these students pieces exhibited alongside some of the best student artwork in the state, Lane students also won scholarships and classes to local art academies. Congratulations students!

LANE ART FACULTY MEMBERS EXHIBIT IN LOCAL VENUES

Friday, Feb 7, was a big night for Photography teacher, Joseph Wilcox, and Sculpture teacher Veronica Bruce. Both had gallery openings in the Ravenswood neighborhood of Chicago. Joseph Wilcox exhibited his photography series, “Getting to know my neighbors” at Alibi Gallery. Veronica Bruce displayed her abstract paintings based on her time in Lithuania and Philadelphia at Gallery 19. Congrats to both teachers for such inspiring work!
